Live Hitting

Monday Night Live @ THE FIELD

Softball Edition: Our live hitting event provides an opportunity for our softball athletes to participate in a fully "live" hitting experience. No machines are used. To register select/click on the age group below.

8U and 10U Session (<Click to Register): This session is for 8U-10U athletes only. In an effort to provide an adequate number of balls to hit per round of batting, we will NOT use pitchers of the same age. Pitching will be done by THE FIELD team members and/or by high school age (and up) volunteers. Pitching distance will be 15'-20'. If your athlete lacks confidence swinging in games, this session will help.

12U and Up Session (<Click to Register): This session does provide live pitchers (male and female) that pitch from the mid 50's to the mid 60's mph. Pitching is done from 43’ and we don’t adjust for distance unless the batter chooses to move up in the batter's box. This live hitting experience is best for 12U athletes and up. This live hitting experience is not intended to be discouraging but is definitely challenging.

How is Live Hitting run? Athletes are assigned to a specific cage and will work out of that cage for duration of the session. During their turn at bat, they will get 12-15 pitches to hit and they rotate in and out, much like their regular batting practice. We do not manage batting order. The athletes have to be accountable to remember there spot (or who they hit after) as with any other batting practice. We rotate the pitchers between cages so each batter sees each pitcher and vice versa. To ensure our athletes are getting continuous work for the duration of the session, we also provide tee stations and a front toss stations. The front toss station is first come first served but we make sure everyone hits in front toss.

Note: As this is a live hitting (and pitching) event, all athletes are here to work, hitters and pitchers. There are time when pitchers have trouble with location and when hitters have trouble with timing. Finally, though it does not happen often, athletes have been hit by pitch. It’s not a perfect science but it is the reality and part of the game.

Participation Waiver are required and must be completed upon registering.
